In a previous post we talked all about the Baraka Shea Butter in our hemp salve, and a few people were curious about the other ingredients. Of course they’re listed on our site, but it’s always good to know the value and purpose of each one if possible. So we’ve put together a little guide, that way when you use our salve or anything else with these ingredients, you’ll have a little more knowledge about the product.
Baraka Shea Butter: Read all about this amazing shea butter in our previous post here: https://greenriverbotanicals.com/baraka-shea-butter-partnership-with-green-river-botanicals/
Coconut Oil: We use high quality organic coconut oil in our salve. Lots of people use this ingredient by itself on skin as a moisturizer or for treatment of burns. Coconut oil has two primary fatty acids, caprylic and lauric, which are said to team up with the antioxidant component in the oil to create an anti-inflammatory effect.
Arnica: We absolutely love the arnica + hemp combo. Arnica is used topically for a wide range of conditions, including bruises, sprains, muscle aches, wound healing, superficial phlebitis, joint pain, and inflammation. More recent studies suggest it may also be helpful in the treatment of burns.
Rose Hips: Rose hips are an accessory fruit of the rose plant and has a number of uses. Rose hips are most known for their naturally high vitamin C content. In one study, patients who received rose hip showed greater improvements in arthritic conditions. In another study conducted in 2008, rose hip powder had reduced pain in the hips, joints, and knees by about a third.
Calendula: Calendula is collected from the marigold flower, and often made into an oil or a tea. We love this ingredient for its reputation for being anti-fungal and antibacterial. It’s in lots of topical products and people say it helps with skin conditions like eczema and diaper rash.
Boswellia: Also known as Frankincense, this tree resin has been used in ceremonial incense for centuries. More recently, studies have been conducted on the healing properties of boswellia. A clinical trial conducted by Raychaudhuri and co-workers in India has shown that the extract of the plant, Boswellia serrata, can reduce pain and considerably improve knee-joint functions, in some cases providing relief even within seven days.
Madagascar Vanilla: Some products use synthetic vanilla or vanilla extract, but we opted for vanilla from Madagascar, where 80% of the world’s vanilla is grown on small farms. People often complement the scent of our salve, and that’s partially due to this high quality vanilla.
Beeswax: We use local beeswax from our friends at The Honey and The Hive. We love supporting this family owned and operated business, and knowing that the beeswax came from just across town.
Full Spectrum Hemp: We can’t forget our favorite ingredient! Check out our other blog posts for all kinds of info on our favorite plant. And if you’d like to order our salve just click here.
