This week we’d like to answer another one of those common questions we get from new customers and hemp aficionados alike- “how much should I be taking?”

Sometimes people have been using hemp products without seeing the desired results (check out our article about that) and sometimes they’re brand new to hemp and need to know where to start. Either way, finding the amount that works for you is key.

Like many plant-based wellness products, it’s not one-size-fits-all. That’s partially because CBD is not regulated by the FDA, therefore there are no official dosage recommendations. But CBD is also just one of those things that you’ll need to work with for a short time before deciding how much is right for you.

This is actually a plus in our eyes. With a full-spectrum CBD hemp product like our tinctures, you’ll need to pay attention to how your body reacts to it over the course of a week or two. It’s a great opportunity to take time out of each day and check in, which is something we all forget to do these days when life is so busy.

So where to start?

First, take a few things into consideration: Body weight, body chemistry, desired results, and the concentration of the oil, gummy, or capsule you’re taking.

There are a lot of variables, and we recommend first talking to your doctor about your particular needs and any other medications you may be taking.

If your doctor doesn’t provide a recommendation (or if you don’t have a doctor), you can start here:

Try a small amount and slowly increase as needed. Our hemp oil is pretty concentrated compared to a lot of products out there at 50mg per mL. So if you’re taking our tinctures, we recommend starting with 12-25mg per day. If you’re taking something else, try to figure out how many milligrams of CBD are in each milliliter, or each dose. This will help you to keep track of how much you’re taking, and ultimately, what the sweet spot is for you.

After a week, if you aren’t seeing results, you can increase your dose by 5-10mg for another week. Sometimes it takes a little while for a full-spectrum hemp product to begin working with your endocannabinoid system, especially if you’ve never used it before. For more info on the endocannabinoid system, check out our blog post from earlier this year.
